Last Friday, I had a good laugh when I did my (almost) daily check in at Young House Love and watched the hilarious music video of "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis. You can check that original post out HERE and the updated post of their haul HERE. Just watch the video and you will see what I'm talking about! Anyways, I decided to accept the "(completely unofficial) Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge" and see what I could find. Beware, extreme close-ups of my face coming right up ;) As per the rules of the challenge, here I am in the parking lot of the thrift store ( I promise it's a thrift store even if there is no visible sign, the exterior has just been painted) with my $20 (yes that's a Canadian twenty :)
Part 1: "Go to a thrift shop with – just as the chorus of the song says – “$20 in your pocket”and take a picture. "
I guess I should have put some makeup on for these pics but oh well, this is me. :)
Part 2: " Spend that $20 any way you’d like and photograph your spoils. " So what did I acquire for my 20 buckaroos? These three huge frames ($6 each) and...
this sweet sunburst mirror ($2). I'm totally pumped about those frames and even though at first I just figured I'd change out the art, ($6 is cheap for big solid frames!) I actually kind of like them, very botanical.
This fun little mirror has already found it's home! I love that it is a similar wood tone as the other wood accents in this house, but it also has a bunch of texture too. What was in this spot before? See in the picture below, the silverish frame, behind the elf? That's where our burst of wooden sunshine lives now. (On a side note, I just realized I need to get/share some updated pictures of our house!)
OK, and back to the topic of the day!
Part 3 of the challenge, "Find one item (or more) referenced in the song and snap a pic."
Well I have to say, I was pretty bummed that I didn't find any flannel zebra PJ's or even a really big a$$ coat, but I did find this...
Do I get bonus points for finding two? (Should I mention I didn't even know that other one was in the background until just now?!) Oh and please excuse the "I feel like an idiot and I'm trying not to get caught while taking a picture of myself " face. In hindsight, I should have brought a friend, which would have been way more fun and have the bonus of someone else take the picture :)
All in all, I had a great time, so thanks John and Sherry of YHL for throwin' down the challenge!
Do you do any thrift shopping? Even though our town is pretty small, we have
