Remember a few weeks ago in this post I was telling you about all the plums we had to pick? Well one of the things we ended up making was some homemade HP sauce that my mom had a recipe for. It turned out really yummy so I wanted to share with you the recipe for it. So here goes...
First you need some freshly picked plums (the purple kind)
(this bucket was full before we started, that's how many plums we used, you need about 6 pounds :)
Then you chop up and de-pit the plums and chop up 1 large onion and skin 1/4 cup of garlic cloves.
Next, you throw all the ingredients above into a blender or food processor and blend them up real good. ( I had to do this step in a few batches cause there was so much plums :)
Then, you put the blended ingredients in a big pot,
And set it on the stove to boil and add, 6 cups malt vinegar, 4 1/2 cups brown sugar, 2 tsp cloves, 2 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp nutmeg, 3 tsp cayenne pepper, and 2 tsp ginger. Boil all together for about 3 hours
(or until desired thickness)
Yields: 7 pints (I made ours in 1/2 pints cause we don't use the sauce that often)
And enjoy!
