Jet skiing!

Yesterday, my little buddy and I, had some time to kill in town (we live twenty minutes away from the town) so we decided to poke around some thrift shops (OK I decided to, but he was game :)  And he was especially game when we discovered this....

Remember these things? There were always a few of these in any mall when I was little (circa 1980's). I didn't think it would work, but the kind people at the store were thrilled to see a little person enjoy it and told me it still worked! So, for a whopping 50 cents my little guy got to go for a ride :) Unfortunately, I didn't find any treasures of my own, but I sure enjoyed the expression on my buddy's face as he enjoyed his :)

Happy Birthday to me!

On Saturday it was my birthday and I had a lovely day, but what I was most thrilled about was learning I was an auntie again to this sweet girl :) Isn't she sweet? I've never met anyone with the same birthday as me (there are a few pretty close though, right Sarah? Auntie Steph?)



Like I said, I had a lovely day. It was pretty relaxing, my dear hubby made me breakfast, my kids were sweet and helpful and then they went to grandmas house while hubby and I went to a dinner and dance. The dinner was fantastic and I got cheesecake for dessert (my favorite!) and then we visited with friends and danced our socks off !

I felt so loved by all the phone calls and facebook birthday wishes I received! Thank you to everyone who called and wrote!

I've been reading....

So, lately I've been doing a lot of reading and I wanted to share with you some of my favorites,

I loved it! Such great practical advise, not on farming so much as family and how to have everyone involved together. I just love Joel Salatin's philosophy on farming. I remember first seeing him first in the movie "Food Inc" and thinking, "that guy is smart"

Next is this little gem,

I really really enjoyed it as well. I probably enjoyed it a lot because it was written by a couple of Canadians (like me!) and in an area that I know pretty well. Most of my relatives live within the 100 mile range in this book and I have visited there many many times. I know what the terrain looks like and it was just remarkable to me that in such a lush, farm filled area, it was so hard for the authors to find and buy local food!

which was a fantastic resource of information and had wonderful colourful illustrations. I loved this book so much, it is definitely on my "want to own" list ( I borrowed it from the library)

Can you tell what has been on my mind lately? I am naturally a voracious reader and since I don't have any background in farming I want to have a varied bunch of information to help me out :)

A Big Announcement!

We sold our house!

We will be sad to leave our Kozy log Kabin, but we are looking forward to the new chapter of our life in our new place (which we haven't found yet!) We still have a few months here until we have to move, so we will enjoy it while we are here :)

Some Changes Around Here

Hi!

First of all I wanted to say thank you to all my blog readers for stopping by during your busy day and taking the time to check out my ramblings!

Secondly, welcome to any new readers out there!

So, those of you who watch my blog fairly regularly may have noticed a bunch of changes going on around here.  You will notice I have added some stand alone pages to the top of the page. I also changed my web address or URL. This is an effort of privacy as I didn't want my last name out there all the time (although it might be a little late for that, but hey, I'm trying :)

When I first started this blog, I didn't really know what I was doing or what I was going to write about. I started it as a way for our far away family members (there's quite a few of them, hi guys!) to get a glimpse into our lives beyond just putting pictures on Facebook. I'm going to continue that quite a bit, but I am also going to be writing more on homesteading/farming as this has become a passion for me. I tried for a little while to carry on two separate blogs, this one and this one, but I am finding I am not that organized! My posting on both have dropped because I get stressed about which one I should write on :) Oh well, lesson learned :) Since I have more work invested in the Kozy Kabin blog, this is the one I'm going to keep.

As some of you know, we are currently trying to sell our property. This Kozy Kabin has been wonderful, but we are ready for more land (our current property is .7 of an acre with two houses on it!). What are we going to do with more land you may ask? Well as you may have guessed, we want our own little farm :) I have always been farm girl at heart, so I will be the primary "farmer" in the family (my hubby still has to work off the farm to pay the mortgage :) with hubby and kids helping out.

So, I hope you all join us in our adventures as we learn and live.

Little Green Things

Do you see them? They're there really :)

Let's do a closeup shall we?

Woohooo! It's finally spring and green things are starting to grow! These are some broccoli seedlings that Gabe and I planted awhile ago, He is so cute, he checks on them every day and even talks to them sometimes too :)

Some other things we planted include pickling cucumbers, tomatoes(Tiny Tim's cherry, Beefsteak and Bonny best, so far) leeks, and basil. On the agenda today, we're going to do some pumpkins and maybe some sunflowers and beans. In the next week or so, I plan to plant some peas, kale and collards and maybe some spinach straight in the garden! I'm excited 'cause I've never tried planting straight in the garden this early before, so it'll be an experiment.

Rainbow Cake

Remember this baby from this post  a couple of weeks ago? Well, today I am going to share with you how I made it :)

I made baguettes!

And a whole bunch of other yummy stuff!!

It feels so good to make homemade food for my family. This should last us all week for lunches and a few suppers :)

From the bottom left corner around clockwise we have:
Sausage and lentil soup, Hamburger soup, Sour cream coffee cake, two loaves of 100% Whole wheat bread, baguettes, gingersnap cookies, and raspberry cream muffins.

 Did you have a good weekend? We certainly did! It's finally spring around here and  the snow is almost gone! Yay!

Baby lambs!

 OK, everyone say with me now, awwwwwwwwwwww! Aren't they sweet?! We went to visit my husband's mom's place on the weekend and she is helping a friend with taking care of and bottle feeding these three lambs. Needless to say, the kids had a blast (they always do, but add lambs to the mix and boy, what a great time!) The second we all hopped out of the truck we heard, "Maa maaa!" It sounded like a newborn baby cry and was so cute! The kids were a little unsure at first, but quickly warmed to having the lambs gamboling all over them :)

This little one is Gwendolyn, and that is my foot beside her, look how tiny she is!

And this little one was even smaller, Lilly the Lamb (as opposed to Lilly the Chicken who you will meet in a moment :) The other is a boy and his temporary name is Rambo.

She just stole my heart and we had a nice cuddle :)

The kids even got to help with feeding time :) This picture cracks me up at Stella's expression in the background checking out the little fur balls. She didn't know quite what to make of them :)

My cool little dude :) He got the sunglasses from the optometrist on Friday and has rarely taken them off since!

Next, it was time to check on the chickens as we had heard Grandma had acquired quite a few more since the last time we visited. This little lady was my favorite, she had quite the attitude and I liked her speckled feathers.

is Lilly the Chicken :) Cady loves to hold her and Lilly likes to be held, most of the time :)
